Message from the President

It is a privilege and with a great sense of pride that I write this article for our 2012 newsletter. Congratulations goes out to Stark County’s MADISON WEBER who was chosen as Ohio Fairs Queen. She successfully competed against 65 other county and independent fairs entries. Madison is a very deserving young lady and will represent agriculture in a mighty way as she tours the state of Ohio’s County & Independent Fairs. Madison is a gifted leader, being president of her Senior Class at Fairless High School, president of the Stark County Junior Fair board, selected as Outstanding Youth at last year’s Stark County Fair and named 2011 Stark County Hunger Task Force “Youth of the Year.”

Congratulations also goes out to all of our Jr. Fair young people who had market projects sold at the 2011 Fair. A new State of Ohio County Fair record was set for the 5th consecutive year by “you”! $632,834.70! Thank You Buyers, for investing in tomorrow’s future leaders.

The Senior Fairboard is planning numerous changes this year. Please view many of them on our new and expanded website www.starkcountyfair.com , facebook, twitter, this newsletter, premium book and by visiting with us from Tuesday, August 28 – Monday, September 3, 2012. Please, support your Stark County Agricultural Society by purchasing a membership or season pass any time from now through the first day of the fair, August 28.

Also, a reminder that we are a non profit 501(C)3 tax deductible organization and will graciously accept any and all contributions, large or small. We are anticipating great crowds with our planned programs this year. Hope your calendar is marked, and come and enjoy this year’s 2012 Stark County Fair. See you there.

Jim Tressel, Fair Board President

Stark’s Madison Weber – 2012 State Fair Queen

Stark County resident Madison Weber has been crowned the 2012 Ohio Fairs Queen. Competing against 65 other young ladies from counties in Ohio, she was selected as the Ohio Fairs Queen on January 8 at the Ohio Fair Managers Convention held in Columbus.  It is the first time in history that a representative from the Northeast Ohio area was selected as the queen at the Ohio Fairs Queen competition.

The 17-year-old Navarre resident and senior at Fairless High School is the daughter of Marlin and Sherri Weber.  Madison also attends the post-secondary education option through Stark State College.

Among Madison Weber’s many accomplishments:

  • President of the Stark County Junior Fair Board
  •  Named 2011 Stark County Outstanding Youth at the 2011 Stark County Fair
  • Nine-Year Member of the Hollow Valley Herdsman 4-H Club in Navarre
  • Secretary of the Hollow Valley Herdsman 4-H Club
  • Senior Class President at Fairless High School
  • Named 2011 Stark County Hunger Task Force “Youth of the Year”

“It is a great honor to have Madison represent Stark County as the Ohio Fairs Queen,” said Jim Tressel, President of the Stark County Fair Board. “The outstanding young men and women who participate in the Junior Fair 4-H programs are to be congratulated on their dedication and hard work. They are the future leaders in our communities and in our nation’s food and agricultural businesses.”
